No, not a Montreal bus, but the image is by Juror8.
I was riding the bus down Sherbrooke Street the other day. It stopped outside the McGill gates, and two people in wheelchairs wanted to board.
Bus bus stopped, and the ramp slowly descended past the back door. A few people were confused as the bus moved downwards, but eventually everyone figured out what was going on.
But when the ramp was down, the back doors wouldn’t open. The driver tried twice, and then went outside to say something to the two people wanting to board.
I didn’t hear the conversation, but the driver hopped back on, retracted the ramps and drove away. The two people shrugged as though this was simply a fact of life, and rolled along the sidewalk.
From the facial expressions of the bus, I gathered that the people aboard were a little perplexed. I know I personally felt a little uncomfortable at how little time it had taken the bus driver to give up on opening the door. If the buses are advertised as being wheelchair accessible (which many are), they should be.
